I'm between 3 and 4 stars on this one.I would call this young adult fantasy (vs fantasy that has young adults in it). There is a lot of internalizing in this one - being afraid, trying to keep loved ones close. There's even some ghosts and talking cats. Also an insane king, politics, and cruelty. I really got into it, but even for a set-the-stage book, not a whole lot gets accomplished. There is quite a bit of angst (which ties it more in with YA fantasy for me), but I still enjoyed the characters. As a teen, I would have loved this.
